Covid Cookie Dump

One of the great things about having a toddler is that I am now able to share my hobbies with him in a way that I could not when he was a baby- and it is so much fun. We do have a little disagreement about what happens when we are done baking, however- he likes to eat the cookies; I like to take pictures of them. While I now have more time to bake cookies, I also have less time to photograph them before they are eaten by my sugar-crazy 3 year old.

Folk(ish) Valentines

I really wanted to make folk art Valentines this year.  And it started that way… but then quickly devolved into a free-for-all.  The resulting set is folk art colors and a variety of designs and patterns.  My Valentines did not seem to mind. Read more…

mixing bowl sunday

Superbowl Sunday is my day in our house.  It is the day when Nate goes off to watch football and I have the house to myself.  I cheerily bake Valentine cookies and snuggle in with Masterpiece.  It is one of my favorite days of the year.   Read more…

Last year, two of my favorite people in DC gave the world a very special Valentine, an adorable baby girl (you can see her baby announcement cookies here.)    Read more…

reuse, refresh, renew

I had planned to make a Valentine set based on the art of Roy Lichtenstein.  But last week, a colleague inspired me to do a bit of blog digging in the archives.  It was an interesting trip.  So, instead of pop art, I decided to make a whole set based on refreshing prior cookie designs. Read more…

my funny valentine

I have been a bad blogger.  I have been tied up with work and renovations.  I found time to make a few cookies in between, but failed to post them.  I actually made Valentine cookies… and have finally decided to post them 1 day short of two months later. Read more…

state of the kitchen address

The state of my kitchen is strong, thanks to my perfect husband who spent all weekend cleaning up after my red icing mess.  I love working with royal icing, but I think we might need to upgrade from a sponge to a paint scraper.   Read more…

super bowl/mixing bowl

I had a near-post-apocalyptic experience during my sophomore year of college.  I emerged from a long nap (*I miss college*) to find that my dorm was completely empty.  I called my parents, my siblings, my grandmother… no one answered (this was 2000, before the days of cell phone ubiquity.)  I began leaving panicked answering machine messages.  My sister eventually called to tell me that I was not, in fact, the sole survivor of nuclear holocaust or humanity-ending plague… just the only one not watching the Super Bowl.   Read more…

conversation hearts

I love making Valentine’s cookies.  When I first met Nate, I knew he was perfect for me because he loved the Grateful Dead, The West Wing, and (most of all) cookies.  Sweet man, sweet tooth. Read more…
