Before I became a pollster, my whole life revolved around the school calendar. From 1981-2010, I went back to school every fall as either a teacher or a student. Prior to 2010, I have no working memory of NOT going back to school. I love everything about back-to-school–clean notebooks, sharp pencils, empty desks, fresh blazers… this is mostly about blazers, actually.
I am not going back to school this year, but two of my brilliant colleagues are. They will pursue fame and fortune in graduate school. As a former grad student, I can confidently say that grad school is totally about fame and fortune. Totally.
We plan to send them off the right way– with cookies. Because I am traveling for work all week, I am counting on my colleagues back in DC to remember to take the cookies out of the freezer. Did you guys get that? The COOKIES ARE IN THE BACK FREEZER. Don’t forget!
To the two smart, beautiful, and kind women who are heading off to grad school, I have just a little bit of advice: read all the footnotes and call if you need cookies.
